Testing and Evaluation:

A comprehensive testing program is offered to all junior and high school students. Also, all incoming new students receive entrance testing in the areas of English and Math to determine proper class placement, whether it be Regular, Honors or AP track. Doing so helps maximize each student’s opportunity for success.

• 6th, 7th and 8th Grade: These students take the MAP achievement test three times per year. This is the Measures of Academic Progress test. This is a computer adaptive achievement test in Math and Reading. The computer adjusts the difficulty of the questions so that each student takes a unique test. The difficulty of each question is based on how well the student has answered previous questions.

• 9th, 10th and 11th Grade: In the fall of each year, these students take the PSAT/NMSQT (the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) which is a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the actual SAT test.
• 12 SAT

Juniors who take the PSAT/NMSQT may qualify for the scholarship competition sponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Program, or the National Achievement Scholarship Program.

• 11th and 12th Grade: All TCS seniors take either the SAT or the ACT test prior to graduation. We encourage juniors to start testing in the spring of their junior year.

Students who are planning on enrolling for a dual credit course must either have a qualifying SAT/ACT score or take the TSI exam.
