TCS Lower School

Preschool

Preschool offers a developmental academic program for children who are 3 years of age or older by June 1. Half- day classes with a two-day, three-day, or five-day option are available. The program includes "hands-on" learning in: reading readiness with the phonetic approach and math readiness with manipulatives for children to learn concepts from the concrete to the abstract. Practical life activities enhance the program for children to learn responsibility for themselves and their environment.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten is offered to children who are 5 years old by September 1. Full day and half-day options are offered five days a week. The kindergarten curriculum includes student mastery in: letters and sounds of the alphabet, blending sounds and reading one-syllable short vowel words fluently. In mathematics, mastery of numbers 0-100 is the goal. However, many students progress beyond the mastery goals because the developmental program addresses individual paces and strengths.

Transitional First Grade

Transitional First Grade (T1) is a class offered for students who are developmentally young. It is an additional year between kindergarten and first grade.

The Lower School

The Lower School is committed to instructional strategies and academic content that complement the developmental needs of students. Understanding that learning styles are as personal as fingerprints, the Lower School offers students a wide range of opportunities to achieve success in problem solving, group activities, creative and logical thinking, individual projects, and computer instruction.
Alternative Instructional Methods (AIM) is a full day program for students 1st-5th grades who have been diagnosed with a language learning difference. All subjects are taught using a multi-sensory approach by a teacher trained in Alphabetic Phonics.
Educating the whole child, while nurturing self-esteem, provides an atmosphere of acceptance so students develop an optimistic love of learning. Therefore, the student goes forward with confidence, prepared to meet the challenges ahead.
